The Remote Sensing Service of INTA belongs to the Department of Earth Observation, Remote Sensing and Atmosphere. It is the responsible for the research, technological development and applications in the areas of both aerial and spatial Remote Sensing.

Since the beginning, more than 20 years ago, it mantains a group of specialists that support the Remote Sensing users of both civil and military applications. This Service tries to promote the use of this technology by collaborating in national and international projects.

At present it is formed by 21 professionals with varied specialisation fields and experience that give the Service a multi-disciplinary character. This, linked to the all-purposes nature of the Remote Sensing data, allow them to participate in projects of various kinds, developing scientific-technical activities or providing operational solutions.

The main tasks developed by the Service are:

Development of Earth Observation Programs..

Experimental filght campaigns to obtain data on natural resources, using airborne sensors.

Future Earth observation systems simulation.

Projects and applications on Environment, Cartography, Forestry, Oceanography, Hydrology and Edafology.

Aerospace technology for prevention, evaluation and regeneration of ecosystems.

Design, development, updating and maintenance of image processing systems for military high resolution images.

Support to the Ministry of Defence for Earth observation Programs and systems:strategic reconnaissance, intelligence, detectability (visible, infrared and SAR radar).

Commercial distribution of satellite images (Landsat, ERS, etc.)

The Remote Sensing Area is structured in three Laboratories:

 Acquisition Lab

 Processing Lab

Data Distribution and Dissemination Lab, in which CREPAD is included.
