Since 2007 INTA has in its CREPAD's dependences at Maspalomas's Station a SPOT Direct Receiption Station of data from SPOT 4 and 5.
INTA manages the annual contract for telemetry of these satellites with the distribution company worldwide, SPOTIMAGE. Under the agreement, SPOT INTA station can acquire an unlimited amount of telemetry annually. This CREPAD requests Spotimage prior programming of the satellite according to the users requests. The data distribution can be made to all Spanish users under the conditions specified in the distribution agreement.
The data acquisition is performed with a 10 m X-band antenna and processed in near real time through the terminal TS5 implemented by Spotimage process, so that it meets all standards of the stations SPOT. The main customers of Spot data has been the National Remote Sensing Plan (SOP), led by IGN, which involves the acquisition of comprehensive coverage of Spanish territory to distribute to all state and regional administration, and MGCP. Other clients have been EGMASA and TRAGSATEC.
This Reception Station will be part of the Network(Net) of SPOT Direct Reception Stations, extending the coverage on the western zone of Africa.
The telemetry got for the antenna will be tried according to the request of every user, and the products distributed in digital support (CD / DVD) or across ftp.
The requests of budget, programmings and acquisition of images, so much current as like in file, will have to be proceeded across the NPOC of Remote Sensing Area of INTA, in the same way as now there is requested any type of information distributed by this Center.

The request of programming of the antenna and the satellite will have to be realized by the sufficient anticipation, according to the following criteria:
Standard programming: It is realized when strict requirements
do not exist as for the moment of the acquisition.
Priority programming: It is realized when the date of
acquisition is the most important parameter. This type of programming has priority on the previous ones and the cost for image is major.
Besides the moment or interval of time fixed for the acquisition of the information, other parameters that are born in mind and that the user must fix are: covering area, the maximum percentage of cloudy coverage tolerated and the geometry of the acquisition (angle of apprehension).
With all these information, INTA manage the study of technical feasibility with SPOTIMAGE and once obtained the results it sends an offer of acquisition to the user for their final approval. With it, the user acquires the formal commitment to buy the scene or requested scenes.
The scenes acquired by the satellites SPOT 4 and 5 provide a coverage of 60x60 km, and have the following characteristics:
| Satellites | Electromagnetic spectrum | Pixels'size | Spectral Bands |
|---|---|---|---|
Spot 5 |
Panchromatic |
2,5 m ó 5 m |
0,48 - 0,71 µm |
Spot 4 |
Monospectral |
10 m |
0,61 - 0,68 µm |
The telemetry acquired in Maspalomas will be able to be processed in order to generate the following standardproducts:
Level 1A: radiometric corrections are carried out to
eliminate the mistakes originated by the differences of sensibility in the detectors of the instrument.
Level 1B: besides the radiometric corrections geometric
alterations are realized to eliminate the distortions produced by the conditions of acquisition (variation of the attitude of the satellite, panoramic effect, curvature and rotation of the land, etc.).
Level 2A: all the previous corrections are realized, but in
addition the scene is rectified to a cartographic standard projection. To realize these geo-location the control points are not used
over land. In addition, for the scenes of SPOT 4 the altitude of rectification is kept constant on the whole scene, whereas for SPOT 5 digital
model of elevations is in use with a mesh of 1 km from side.
Level 2B: the geo-location carries out like in the
previous case but using control points over land.
The following table shows the precisions reached according to the type of product:
